LuckyDiem is helping small businesses by virtually removing all of time and risk spent on digital marketing. Their iOS app promotes awareness and drives traffic to small businesses by integrating discounts and rewards for consumers. I joined LuckyDiem during a pre-alpha stage in the summer of 2017. As the companies first designer, I was responsible for designing all things visual from product design to branding while laying out the foundation of the MVP.

For the first time in U.S. history, small business in America is in decline. The cost and complexities of digital marketing, not to mention competing with e-commerce, have made running a small business more challenging than ever. Most of small businesses today simply lack the time, skill and resources to implement a digital marketing strategy. The goal of this project was to develop an app that helps small businesses gain new customers while giving consumers a fun way to save money and win prizes.

I constructed personas to define our user types and have our team on the same page throughout our brainstorming sessions. Our focus shifted from ideas that attributed biased value to designing and solving problems for actual user types that will use our product.

As a consumer, signing up for LuckyDiem only requires a name and email. To fully utilize the app, a credit or debit card is required. Because of this, we gave users the option to bypass credit card inputs upfront so they can feel comfortable adding it at their own pace.

Once a merchant is signed up, their profile is now searchable for users in a toggled list/map format. From onboarding, we displayed their cash back offering percentage based off what merchants provided us to entice consumers to discover their businesses.

This was one of the most challenging products I've had to design for. Being fresh out of college and inexperienced, I was able to see how scrappy and chaotic an early stage fast paced startup could be. From constant pivots to tight deadlines, I was forced to grow and made plenty mistakes along the way, but all for personal growth.
